A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed by police in West Philadelphia on Wednesday afternoon, the city’s police chief said.
Police were called to the 2600 block of West 10th Street just after 10 p.m. for reports of a shooting, according to a police news release.
A woman who was with the boy at the time of the shooting was taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according the release.
Officers arrested a 16-year veteran of the department who was identified as Benjamin James Dias.
The Philadelphia Police Department said officers were responding to a report of shots fired at a residence.
The victim was transported to Penn-University Hospital for treatment.
Dias is facing multiple charges, including attempted homicide, aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, assault with a firearm and reckless endangerments.
Dios has been suspended without pay pending an investigation.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
Philadelphia police said the teen had not been arrested.
