President Donald Trump on Wednesday night said that if Congress doesn’t approve his tax plan, the U.S. economy could “explode.”
In an interview with Fox News’ Sean Hannity that aired on Wednesday, Trump said that it would be a disaster if the House does not approve his proposed tax overhaul, and it would likely take a while for the country to recover.
“It’s not just a tax cut.
It’s a disaster,” Trump said.
“And it will take a long time for us to recover.”
Hannity asked Trump if he believed that the U,S.
would “explod” in the event that Congress did not approve the plan.
“I think so.
And it will be a catastrophe,” Trump responded.
Hannify noted that Trump did not specify what he meant by “a disaster.”
Trump’s comments were in contrast to the reaction from other major business leaders who have called on Congress to act on his tax proposal.
During an interview earlier Wednesday, Steve Wynn, CEO of Wynn Resorts, said the president’s plan was a “disaster.”
“The economy is going to explode if he continues on this path,” Wynn said.
Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., also called for action on the president in an interview on CNN Wednesday.
“This is a disaster for our country,” Sanders said.
